Residents in Hwange have received an ultimatum to do away with squats toilet by 28 February, 2023.
Hwange spokesperson, Dumisani Nsingo said that those who fail to get rid of squat toilets will be fined US$20.
“It has come to our attention that some households are still using squat toilets, thus clogging our sewer reticulation system and leading to recurrent blockages and bursts,” reads part of the statement.
The statement added that Council told residents last year to replace squat toilets with sitting toilets as the council was struggling to deal with solid human waste for over a decade.
