Foreign Economic Relations Minister of the Sverdlovsk of the Russian Federation, Honourable Yarin Vyacheslav, is expected in the country today for a three-day visit.

He will be accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Sverdlovsk Region of the Russian Federation, Honourable Igor Zelenkin, and a business delegation.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade spokesperson Mr Livit Mugejo said Minister Vyacheslav will hold several meetings to strengthen economic ties.

“During his visit, Minister Vyacheslav will hold meetings with the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Honourable Dr Sekai Nzenza and captains of industry as part of efforts to discuss potential areas of economic cooperation between Zimbabwe and the Sverdlovsk Region of Russia.

“The meeting will also be attended by the Minister of Provincial Affairs and Devolution for Midlands Province Honourable Larry Mavima, as the two nations intend to establish a twinning agreement between the Midlands Province and the Sverdlovsk Region of Russia,” Mugejo said.

The delegation is also expected to tour industrial sites specialising in machinery and equipment for timber processing, the production of rubber and pharmaceutical substances.

On March 2, a roundtable business discussion will be held as the country wishes to broaden their cooperation on account of the existing political relation with the Russian Federation.

Russia has pledged to continue consolidating its cooperation with Zimbabwe and other friendly countries and has called for the lifting of sanctions against Harare imposed by some Western countries.
