Two Hopley men were taken to court after pretending to be passengers, but went on to rob the car owner of his vehicle, money and two phones.

Norman Mukorombindo, 26, and Fanuel Chibwe, 23, appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Courts accused of robbery of a motor vehicle or, alternatively, contravening Section 126 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9.23.

The state alleges that, on November 26, 2022, the two approached the complainant who was driving his Honda Fit. They pretended to be genuine passengers that were looking for transport at Mashwede, Higlen, Harare wanting to go to Warren Park 1.

They were offered transport and when they reached Aspindale, Green Market, the two attacked and tied the complainant's hands and searched him.

They stole US$10 cash and two Iphones XR and 11 models.

The complainant was later dumped and Mukorombindo and Chibwe drove off with the stolen car.

The value of property that was stolen is US$5 000 of which US$4 900 was recovered.
