Kadoma mayor and three other councillors have been recalled by the Movement for Democratic Change in a purge that has occurred in several other local authorities over the past year.

The mayor, Councillor Action Nyamukondiwa who represented Kadoma Central Constituency’s ward 9, was on February 27 recalled together with councillors Edson Muzira, ward 4, Nigel Ruzario, ward 15, and Michael Mvura, ward 3.

Local Government and Public Works Minister July Moyo announced in a statement dated February 27:

“I wish to inform you that I’m in receipt of a letter from the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC-T) stating that the following councillors have been expelled from the party.

“In terms of section 278 (1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, read with section 129 (1) (k), the above-mentioned wards are now vacant.”

The recalled four did not take part in a full council meeting held at Town House on Tuesday, February 28, and ward 10 councillor, Aaron Masvikeni chaired it.

MDC leader Mwonzora has recalled several councillors and House of Assembly members elected in 2018 in a battle for political relevance with the Citizens Coalition for Change.
