Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has awarded a contract to Ericsson for the modernisation of its radio access network and core network infrastructure across Harare.
Ericsson says the network upgrade will pave the way for Econet to deliver 5G connectivity in more locations, unlocking advanced consumer and enterprise use cases.
5G makes is possible to connect more devices at faster speed and also opens up limitless opportunities for business and individuals to explore Internet of Things possibilities.
As part of the mobile core evolution, Ericsson will modernise the existing Evolved Packet Core network to cloud-native dual-mode 5G core, as well as upgrading the Unified Data Management solution.
The agreement with Econet also includes Ericsson’s cloud infrastructure solutions, the Circuit Switch Core modernisation and the introduction of IP Multimedia System for VoLTE and VoWiFi.
