Chisumbanje-based Castle Lager Premier Soccer League newboys Greenfuel Football Club will use Gibbo Stadium for its first three league games as they await final touches being done at their Greenfuel Arena Stadium.

The league kicks off on March 18.

This comes as several PSL clubs have had their stadiums condemned by Zifa for not meeting set standards.

Club chairperson Fredson Moyo said that renovations at Greenfuel Arena are 80% complete after incessant rains stalled progress.

Moyo said they negotiated with Triangle FC for the use of Gibbo Stadium as final touches on their arena, with a capacity of 10 000 people, will be completed well into the season.

“Our Stadium is now 80% complete. We are currently working on the final touches. All required materials are on site but works have been drastically affected by the rains. We are pushing but as a contingent plan we negotiated with Triangle FC to make use of Gibbo Stadium for the first two or three home games while we polish our own,” he said.

The ethanol boys will be away to Yadah in the opening game before they host Herentals FC for their second league game of the 2023 season.

Moyo also said that they had set themselves an ambitious target of finishing the season in the top five, adding that they also want to be a professionally-run club.

“We are ready and prepared to compete in the PSL. It must be known that we are not in the PSL to make numbers. We have assembled a competitive side comprising of youth and experienced players and we intend to send shock waves in the PSL and rewrite history books.

“Our target is to finish in the top five, although we cannot rule out being in the top two or even top of the league, we are minnows as some quarters would like to think. Our ultimate dream is to become a professionally run club, very competitive and in the same league with the likes of FC Platinum, Chicken Inn and Ngezi Platinum. We are seeing ourselves playing in CAF champions’ league in the very near future when the ban is lifted,” said Moyo.

Meanwhile, Greenfuel coach Lloyd ‘Samaita’Mutasa said his charges, who are currently in Nyanga for team build-up are ready to go.

“Now that the fixture is out, we are taking a positive approach because we now know who we are playing and where. Am sure we are good to go and a top-four finish will do me right though this year am not restricting myself to that for I know a better position will not be a surprise to me,” he said.
