Police in Chinhoyi have arrested five suspects in connection with several counts of theft from motor vehicle cases which occurred between October 2022 and March 2023.
Trymore Jakarasi, 35, Tendai Chitsinde, 51, Tawanda Walter Machinguta, 41, Shephered Madaka, 41, and Tawanda Bvekero, 39, stole and robbed in Chinhoyi, Kadoma, Kwekwe, Harare and Masvingo.
According to the police, the suspects stole various cellphones, laptops and cash all valued at US$108 685.
“Police reacted to a tip-off, intercepted the suspects who were travelling in a get-away Toyota Mark X motor vehicle fixed with an AEN 3373 number plate.
“Two gate remote controls, T-bars, an HP laptop, a Canon D3700 camera, Canon Cam Coder HD camera and JVC HD Camera and a motor vehicle number plate, AGC4089, were recovered from the suspects,” police said.
Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man from Bikita was arrested after he murdered a 62-year-old Webster Mhembere during a funeral service at Romberai Village, Chief Mazungunye on February 8.
The suspect, Vetengeni Kwaramba, pinned the victim to ground and strangled him.
The victim had asked the suspect to return his burdizzo, which he had taken.
