A Beatrice man, Owen Mukono, 40, of Dunnota Farm was last week sentenced to 20 years in prison by Chivhu Regional Magistrate Fadzai Mtombeni after she kept a 13-year-old girl as a sex slave.
Mukono reportedly kept the 13-year-old captive at his place while promising her a job.
Prosecutor Mike Choto told the court that in November 2022, the complainant, who was a pupil at a Beatrice School, went to her grandmother’s place in Unit N, Seke, Chitungwiza.
The complainant met Mukono on December 24, 2022 at Ruzave Shops, Breamer in Beatrice when she returned home to celebrate the festive season with her family.
He offered her a place to sleep for the night while he slept at a friend’s place on the day.
The following day, Mukono took the minor to Murombedzi where they stayed for five days as Mukono was looking for a job for her.
He stayed with the minor after returning to Breamer and raped her every night while keeping her locked in his house.
The minor fell sick and Mukono took her to his mother’s house but she chased him away.
He allegedly dumped the minor at Chibhanguza Shops where she was found by Refias Moyo, who then took her back to her mother.
The minor’s mother had filed a missing person report.
The 13-year-old was interrogated by her mother, who filed a report, leading to Mukono’s arrest.
The minor was taken to Mbare clinic for medical examination.
