Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Dr Frederick Shava has expressed gratitude to the government of Belarus for assistance rendered in the opening of a diplomatic mission of Zimbabwe in that country.
This comes after Zimbabwe opened an embassy in Minsk which saw a Zimbabwean delegation visiting Belarus. The official visit by the Zimbabwean foreign minister to Belarus is taking place between March 26-30.
The Belarusian president to Zimbabwe, Alexander Lukashenko, said of the development:
“The government has approved the roadmap for the implementation of the reached agreements and 65 events in various areas: policy and diplomacy, trade and economy, agriculture, military and technical sector, healthcare and medical science, investments, energy, equipment supplies and maintenance are lined up.”
Belarus will also continue its participation in the programme to modernize and mechanize agriculture in Zimbabwe.
Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Zimbabwe were established on April 16, 1992. The Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus in South Africa is concurrently accredited in Zimbabwe.
The legal base of bilateral relations is actively developing. Currently, 15 international documents have been signed between the two countries and more than a dozen agreements are in progress.
