Marondera chamber secretary Rinashe Nyamuzihwa has been appointed as substantive town clerk for the Mashonaland East provincial capital after impressing during interviews held recently to fill the post.
Nyamuzihwa had been shortlisted along other with three other candidates, including Murewa Rural District Council chief executive officer, Alois Gurajena.
The Local Government Board confirmed Nyamuzihwa’s appointment in a letter dated March 21 that was addressed to Marondera Mayor Simbarashe Nyahuye.
“After thorough deliberations and taking everything into account, the Local Government Board was satisfied that Rinashe Nyamuzihwa had a distinct edge above the other candidates in terms of experience and exposure,” the letter reads in part.
The resolution to appoint Nyamuzihwa was done in December last year after Marondera had gone for two years without a substantive town clerk.
The new town clerk has the task of solving a myriad of service delivery challenges that have dogged the town for some time.
Government in July last year ordered Marondera Municipality to re- advertise the town clerk’s post, although three candidates had been shortlisted then.
The town clerk’s position fell vacant following the retirement of long-serving Josiah Musuwo, who had spent thirty years in the position.
