Several people were seriously injured after a commuter omnibus which was headed for Mt Darwin rammed into a stationary bus along Sam Nujoma Street, in the Avenues area in Harare.

One eye witnesses, Tatenda Ngoma, who is a bus conductor, said the driver must have lost control of the vehicle.

“It’s still shocking me until now because the kombi was not being chased by the police and the road was clear. He must have lost control of the vehicle and might have been speeding.

“What happened here is horrific and I hope all those injured recover soon,” he said.

One of the kombi passengers, Hazviperi Gohwa said she is still confused over what had happened.

“I still do not understand how it happened but the kombi was roaming around looking for passengers.

Gohwa had three other children with her who were fortunately unharmed.

Two ambulances rushed to the scene to assist the victims of the road traffic accident.

The whole front of the kombi ploughed and stuck into the bus, trapping some passengers in the process.

Two passengers who were sitting in the front of the vehicle had to be removed by the Fire Brigade as they had been trapped.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza could not be reached for comment at the time of writing.
