Baba Harare has subbed the StarFM Listener’s awards which are set for May 3 under the theme “Its All About The Artist.” Though he could not give exact reasons for the decision, it is believed he was not happy about the exclusion of Winky D from the recognition and is in solidarity with him.

“Thank you very much Star FM and the listeners for the nomination. I feel honoured. However, due to my own personal reasons, I don’t feel worthy of the nomination.

“There are other great acts/artists who should have graced the center stage but sadly aren’t in any category. So I wish my nomination to be withdrawn. Thank you once again for the opportunity,” he wrote on his official Face Book page.

The awards are a 3-hour live radio production event which takes place at the radio house along Simn Mazorodze Road.

Said StarFM about the awards:

“It's an innovative feat of excellent radio production as these awards are going to be the first-ever live on-air in Zimbabwe.

“We will be breaking new ground with the awards event, as a radio and online experience which will feature live performances from artists.”

Leo Magozz, Takura and Quonfuzed are the artists leading the way with four nominations each. Star FM head of programming Steve Vickers said the radio station wanted to honour and reward the local talent.

“We want to honour and reward our local artists, who are the stars of Star FM... We will also create a unique and exciting experience for our listeners, with live performances from the nominees,” he said.
