A Marlborough man who sold a car he had been entrusted with after giving the complainant US$600 which she was supposed to pay back and get her car back has appeared in court.
Kudzaishe Mupinda, 33, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi accused of theft of trust property, contravening Section 113 (2) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9.23.
The State, through Zororai Nkomo, alleges that on December 10, 2022, Mupinda was entrusted by the complainant in the matter with a Honda Aria as collateral for a loan of US$600 which she had taken from him.
Without the consent and agreement of the complainant, Mupinda went on to acquire a duplicate registration book from Central Vehicle Registry and later sold the car to one Tino for US$2 100.
In February 2023, the complainant paid Mupinda his US$600 but later discovered that he had sold the car and took the money for his benefit.
That led to the complainant losing a car worth US$3 500 which made her to make a police report, resulting in Mupinda’s arrest.
Mupinda was ordered to come back to court on June 6.
