A man who allegedly stole a car and put its insurance and licence disc on another stolen car has appeared in court.
John Masedza, 21, of Epworth appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with theft of trust property.
The State alleges that on May 11, 2023, at around 0730 hours, the complainant in the matter, Lorraine Mushandu, 33, parked her Honda Fit at Corner Mazowe Street and Fife Avenue in Harare.
She allegedly locked her doors and took the keys to her workplace.
At around 1800 hours on the same day, Mushandu knocked off duty and she went to the parking bay wanting to drive home, but to her surprise, the car was no longer there.
She asked around but to no avail and later filed a report of a stolen car at ZRP Harare Central.
On September 5, 2023, Masedza was arrested and convicted on a similar charge of theft of a motor vehicle.
The recovered car had an insurance and licence disc fixed on it which belonged to Mushandu’s car.
A search was done in the Central Vehicle Registry database and the details show that it was Mushandu’s car.
Upon being asked, Masedza said he had sold the car to one Samson Musekiwa based in Marondera for US$1 700 and the car is yet to be recovered.
As a result, Mushandu lost a car worth US$4 500.
Masedza was remanded in custody.
