A Hopley man, who sold a phone obtained from a robbery as a way of dissociating himself and his wife from the crime, has been arrested.

Admire Muridhini, 32, of Hopley Zone 2, appeared before magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused obstructing the course of justice.

The State through, Thomas Chanakira, alleges that, on February 16, following the arrest of Muridhini's relatives, Frank Mafati and Tinashe Maruta for rape and robbery under ZRP Marimba who are currently on remand.

Evidence was obtained that Muridhi's wife, Tsitsi Kalulu, was using one of the robbed Itel P38 cell phone.

Muridhini's wife was picked for interviews by the police and Muridhini also came along.

He connived with his wife and said that they knew of the said cell phone which they, however claimed was later stolen from Muridhini's wife when she boarded an omnibus from town to Hopley, yet Muridhini had the phone.

A statement was recorded from Muridhini's wife in which she maintained the theft story.

CID Homicide applied for a warrant of search and seizure of the robbed cell phone.

They obtained information from service providers that the cell phone handset was currently in use.

On April 27, checks were made, leading to the recovery of the robbed Itel P38 cell phone from Kelvin Madzongo, who was now using it.

Investigations revealed that Madzongo bought the phone from Muridhini for US$65, leading to his arrest.

The value of the phone was US$130 and nothing was recovered.

Mashavakure ordered Muridhini to appear in court on May 2, for bail application.
