Acting on a tip off, police arrested ZPC Kariba footballer Winston “Bagga” Mhango and found a cache of drugs at his house.
“The arrest led to the recovery of the following drugs and items at the suspect’s residence, approximately 4,7 kilogrammes of dagga, 11 bottles x 100ml Benylin with Codeine cough syrup, 01 bottle x 100ml BronCleer with Codeine cough syrup, 30 boxes of 10 x 100’s Ziplock Bags [packaging plastics], 01 x Electro Master Kitchen Scale, 02 x MH Mini Digital scales, 19 packs of 50 Toast Leaf rolling papers and 01 cigarette lighter,” the police announced in a statement yesterday.
The police indicated that Mhango 35, faces charges connected with unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs.
Last year Harare City footballer Jerry Chipango was sentenced to 24 months after conviction for drug dealing.
Former Bulawayo City coach Philani Ncube claimed that 80 percent of PSL players are using illegal substances.
Former Mighty Warriors star Rufaro Machingura died from substance abuse linked health complications.
Former Dynamos captain Nyasha Chazika has been said to have fallen on hard times linked to drug abuse.
Another Dynamos son, Denver Mukamba has also seen a star career blighted by drug abuse.
Thousands of people have been arrested since the police declared a war on drugs but this does not appear to have made a dent on the trade and abuse of illegal substances.
