A 20-year-old woman is fighting for her life in a Bulawayo hospital after being stabbed and raped by her ex-boyfriend for turning down his attempt at reconciliation.
The horrible incident took place in Chiwundura, where the victim and her cousin were fetching firewood when they encountered the suspect. A verbal altercation ensued when the suspect attempted to reconcile with his ex-girlfriend.
According to Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, the man withdrew a knife from his pocket and threatened to stab the woman. He then proceeded to rape and stab her all over her body.
Midlands Provincial Police have confirmed the arrest of the suspect, whose name has been withheld. According to the police spokesperson, the suspect was arrested in connection with the rape and attempted murder cases. The incident occurred at Maveni village under Chief Gambiza.
The victim was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital by a well-wisher before being transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital in Bulawayo due to the severity of her injuries.
