A Chinamhora man who took advantage of a minor who had visited his place for guavas and raped her has appeared in court.
Antonio Kanyota, 69, of Dembetembe Village, Chinamhora appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of rape.
The State alleges that, in 2022, the complainant who is a juvenile aged 13, who live in the same area, was in the company of a juvenile aged 12, went together to Kanyota’s place to ask for some guavas.
When they reached Kanyota’s place, they asked for guavas, but Kanyota told the complainant’s colleague she had gone with to go into the orchard to collect the guavas while he remained with the complainant at his house.
Kanyota hold the complainant’s hand and moved with her. He started fondling her breasts and buttocks.
He dragged her into his room and closed the door before laying her down. He removed all his clothes pulled her skirt upwards and removed his pant.

Kanyota lay on top of the girl and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
He left the complainant and she dressed up and joined her colleague to go home.
The matter came to light when the complainant’s sister came from South Africa and noticed some changes on her body.
She was asked and explained that she had been abused by Kanyota.
She was escorted to the police station by her sister to file a report.
She was later referred to Parirenyatwa Hospital for medical examination.
Kanyota was remanded in custody and was advised to approach the High Court for bail.
