Police have launched an investigation after two Chinese nationals were on Friday robbed of US$13 600 in cash at their home in Mt Pleasant, Harare.

Liu Yong Chun and Niu Gong, were robbed by seven armed robbers who were wearing balaclavas and armed with machetes.

The robbers entered the house through an unlocked kitchen door and tied up Chun and Gong with electrical cables and robbed them of a gun and US$13 600 in cash.

A police investigation has since been launched after the case was reported at Marlborough Police Station under RRB 5505936.

A source close to the two Chinese business people said Gong had visited Yong at his house.

Three men then entered the house through an unlocked kitchen door at around 7.40pm.

“They ordered the two to sit on the floor and tied their hands with electric cables.

“Four other men, also wearing balaclavas, entered the house and one of them force-marched Yong to his bedroom.

“He ransacked the bedroom and took US$8 600 cash from a drawer.

“Another robber searched Gong’s bag and took US$4 000 cash and a Taurus revolver,” the source said.
