Man rapes wife’s friend who was seeking refuge in his home

A man from Epworth, Harare, Tendekai Chitambu, is accused of raping his wife’s friend who had come to seek refuge from a domestic dispute.

Chitambu allegedly raped the woman while his wife was away.

The incident took place at around 7pm on May 18 when Chitambu asked for sex while they were having supper.

The woman turned him down, but later that night, Chitambu went to the spare bedroom where the woman was sleeping and demanded to have sexual intercourse with her, arguing that he was providing food and accommodation for her and her son.

The woman refused and threatened to tell Chitambu’s wife but the latter hit her on the head several times until she became weak. Chitambu then had unprotected sex with her once without her consent before leaving for his bedroom.

The woman continued to stay at the house until May 20 when her husband came to take her back home. She narrated her ordeal to her husband, who promised to solve the matter. The woman was referred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for medical examination.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, stated:

“Police are investigating a case where a woman was raped while seeking refuge in Epworth. The accused is the husband of the complainant’s friend.”
