A 76-year-old man, Naison Kufakunesu has been taken to court by his former wife, who is claiming the $100 000 he is giving her is not enough.
Tendai Chanda is now demanding $300 000.
Naison opposed Tendai’s claim, saying his only source of income was his Nssa pension, which he said was also taking care of his other child.
“I am earning ZWL$60 000 from Nssa and, if possible, I need a downward variation,” said Naison.
He also told the court that Tendai had sought an arrest warrant against him after he failed to deposit maintenance until one of his older daughters intervened.
Magistrate Sharon Mashavira asked Tendai where the ZWL$300 000 would come from if Naison once failed to pay ZWL$100 000.
Tendai said Naison had seven other children and one of his daughters was helping him to pay the maintenance.
The magistrate told Tendai that the court only gives a judgment based on evidence, and dismissed her claim, saying Naison was earning less than what she was demanding.
