Hippo Valley High School hockey star and Form 3 pupil, Knowledge Mapeto’s dream trip to participate in the Under-16 games in Namibia hangs in the balance after she failed to raise US$1 310 for travel expenses.

He is now appealing for funding from well-wishers.

Mapeto is one of the two players from Masvingo Province who were selected to represent Zimbabwe in Namibia in July in a 3-day test series against Namibia.

He is part of the 18-member Under-16A boys who will represent Zimbabwe in Namibia from July 6-8, 2023.

Each player who is taking part is expected to raise US$1 310 for travel expenses, accommodation, food and kit for the game.

Knowledge’s father, Dume Mapeto said that he is failing to raise money for the trip and appealed to well-wishers to help his son fulfil his dream.

“I am happy that my son has been selected to represent Zimbabwe, but I am failing to raise money for the trip. I plead with well-wishers to come forward and rescue the boy,” said Dume.

Meanwhile, the Hockey Association of Zimbabwe has come up with sponsor a player and support a team campaign calling for individuals to support the hockey players.

A total of 72 hockey players (36 boys and girls Under 16 A and 36 boys and girls Under-18 A) will represent Zimbabwe in the upcoming Test Series in Zambia to be held from July 6-8, 2023

Those who wish to help Knowledge can contact his father on 0772 632 244.
