The Hockey Association of Zimbabwe is aiming for a top 12 finish at the 2023 Women’s FIH Hockey Junior World Cup.

In an interview with Zim Now, Zimbabwe Under 21 Women’s coach, Brad Heuer said they main expectations for the ladies is to finish in the top 12.

There are 16 teams taking part in the Women's FIH Hockey Junior world Cup.

“Our main expectations for the ladies is just that they learn as much as they can from the incredible experience they have been gifted with.

“In terms of the tournament, I think we sort of decided among ourselves that a top 12 finish would be the best.”

Heuer added: “It’s going to be a tough tournament with lot of tough teams. We are in a pretty tough group, so, we will be really happy with a top 12 finish.”

Heuer is excited to play at such a big tournament considering the team is coming from a small country like Zimbabwe.

“To qualify for the tournament this big is amazing for a little Zimbabwean side but the girls have worked hard, they have done a lot to get here.

“They deserve to be here and they are very excited to be in this tournament,” Heuer told Zim Now.

Zimbabwe’s first group stage match is on Wednesday, November 29, when they are going to face Korea at 10:00am.

Their group mates Argentina and Spain will play on the same day at 14:30.
