Earlier in the year King Price Xtreme extended its support of South African mountain biking by announcing their sponsorship of four of the country’s top mountain bikers.
One of the four is Pressmore Musundi, born in Zimbabwe who worked his way up to ultimately finishing on podiums at all the country’s high-profile races in SA.
“The South African mountain bike scene took a big knock over the past two years, with many professional mountain bike racing teams left in a state of uncertainty, and some unable to continue into 2022.
“This partnership with King Price Xtreme means we’re able to get on with the business of racing, and we look forward to a long and happy relationship,” said Pressmore at the time.
Pressmore says next, he wants to global.
Zim Now’s Audrey Galawu has some words with Pressmore to learn a bit more about the cyclist who is riding high.
Audrey: What does it mean for you to be part of King Price Xtreme?
Pressmore: It means the world to me! Joining the King Price Xtreme team has changed my life and made all my cycling dreams a reality. I can’t wait for what’s next.
Audrey: What are some of the highlights of your cycling career?
Pressmore: Definitely winning some of SA’s biggest cycling events, and seeing my career grow in so many ways.
Audrey: What does your training schedule look like?
Pressmore: It’s usually very busy, but I can definitely see the results. My fitness has taken a bit of a hit in the past few months, but I’m getting back into it.
Audrey: Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
Pressmore: I would love to see myself taking part in global races, representing South Africa and my cycling team: Pyga.
Audrey: How did you get into cycling?
Pressmore: Cycling has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I used Buffalo bikes to travel to school but had no idea that it would end up becoming my career!
When I first arrived in South Africa, searching for a better life, I started working as a gardener at Mooikloof Estate. There, the people I worked for bought me a 24-inch mountain bike so that I could get to work. The Pretoria South Lions Club saw talent in me and recruited me to cycle for their development team… And the rest, as they say, is history.
Audrey: What advice do you have for young people who want to take up cycling?
Pressmore: If you want to achieve anything in life, you must have faith that you can do it. Don’t give up, keep going even if it’s hard. You’ll get there.
Audrey: Who inspires you on and off the saddle?
Pressmore: Wow, there are so many people, I can’t list them all... But I would say my Pyga teammates, Philip Buys and Gert Heyns.
Then there’s Phillimon Sebona, of course, who’s currently working with Curro School. He helped me when I was still riding for the Lions Club and showed me that it’s possible to become a professional cyclist, even if the circumstances aren’t ideal. His background is similar to mine, so he just gets it.
Manager at Cycle2Ride and Sales at Trailwolf Cycles Given Phillimon Sebona celebrates Pressmore
Today I am very excited to announce that I will be seeing Presmore teaming up with the legend Shaun Oosthuizen at the 2019 Cape Epic for team TRAILWOLf LIONS. A lot of people worked very hard to make these dreams come true for Pressi, and so has my dream for him as well.
Pressmore Musundi, I am proud to say that you are a true champion. When we got to know you, you worked as a gardener. To see how hard you worked to improve your situation. The dedication, hard work and sacrifices you have made to become one of the very best cyclists in Pretoria I know. Dreams don’t sleep. They came true.
You started cycling about 2 years back and I am very proud to say that I have seen major development in you as an individual. You took a bad situation and turned it into Gold.”
