Teen Rescue Mission is set to host a “No to early pregnancy, drugs and substance abuse” soccer tournament on Tuesday in Besa Village, Ziko in Chitungwiza.
The event is an awareness campaign that will teach schoolchildren the dangers of taking drugs and engaging in sexual activities as they go on holidays.
The drive is to try and win the children back into realising themselves and stand to continue with their education without any disturbances.
TRM Communications Officer, Major Chitombe spoke on how the lives of the young people were being affected by some activities they do during holidays.
“We have seen that when school closes, young people when they are on holiday they intend to engage in different activities that lead them into engaging in sex parties and taking drugs.
“A high percentage of young people start testing drugs and engaging in sexual activities and when school opens, some young girls in the teen age will be in early marriages.
“As an organisation, we aim to give awareness and education to the young people so when they go for their holidays, they are equipped to deal with some activities that can destroy their lives.
“We want to thank Image Magic Cooperate for coming in with prizes which will be given to all participating schools and the winning school will get medals and trophies,” Chitombe said.
Teen Rescue Mission is a youth organisation based in Chitungwiza which has managed to rescue more than 500 young people from drug abuse.
The organisation has also assisted more than 200 youths career-wise with about 134 of them taking skills training courses.
