A man who was given a car to do an assignment but created fake ownership documentation before selling the car has been denied bail.
Barren Blessing Makiwa, 50, of Clevdon Farm in Kadoma, appeared before magistrate Munashe Chibanda facing theft of trust property allegations.
The State, through prosecutor Grace Mugocheke, alleges that July 2019, at Woodgate Road, Mt Pleasant, Makiwa was given a white Toyota Hilux, a registration book for the car, a cross border police clearance and was given a task to drive to Zambia where he was going to meet with the complainant’s director who was flying from South Africa to Zambia.
Makiwa, who allegedly wanted to steal from the complainant, originated a fake agreement of sale between him and Night Harvest Investments, the registered owner of the car, claiming he had purchased the car from the complainant.
On August 3, Makiwa sold the car to one Task Tadzingirwa of Braeside.
The complainant realised that Makiwa had violated the trust agreement and made several attempts to recover the car but Makiwa became evasive and at times he would lie that the car had been involved in an accident.
On September 9, 2019, the complainant went to ZRP Marlborough where he filed a report.
On 19 September, 2019, detectives from CID VTS Harare were informed that, Tadzingirwa had the stolen car and they went and arrested him and recovered the car.
Makiwa will appear in court on August 10 for bail application.
