The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission is holding public anti-corruption awareness campaigns at Vehicle Inspectorate Department depots in Harare and Chitungwiza.

The national anti-graft body confirmed this on their Twitter handle.

“Following a public outcry on rampant corruption at Vehicle Inspectorate Department (VID), ZACC embarked on public Anti-Corruption awareness campaign at VID depots in Harare and Chitungwiza.”

Prospective drivers welcomed the initiative by ZACC.

“The Acting Chief Vehicle Inspector for Harare Province, Mrs Bridget Chimhau appreciated the awareness programme and pointed out that the programme should cascade to other VID depots,” ZACC added.

The VID has been fingered over the years over allegations of its officers corruptly issuing drivers’ licences to undeserving people. Such recipients of drivers’ licences have been blamed for the bulk of the accidents that have taken place on the country’s roads.
