The Meteorological Services Department has said the cold, cloudy and windy conditions being experienced in some parts of the country will persist until August 29.
The department has advised the public to ensure that the elderly, persons with disabilities, young and ill are kept warm.
“Advection of cold and relatively moist air in through the South-eastern parts of Zimbabwe should result in a gradual decline of temperatures over much of the country, bringing in the south-eastern districts of Masvingo Province.
“Sudden changes in temperature may affect those with respiratory related illnesses such as asthma. Please take necessary precautionary measures. Consult your local health practitioner for better advice.
“Take protective measures for both plants and livestock. Monitor temperature within fowl-runs and adjust accordingly to reduce the impacts of cold conditions on birds and animals.
“Please keep poultry, especially day-old chicks, warm as they are sensitive to decline in temperatures,” the MSD said.
The department also advised the public to consult Agritex officers for better advice.
Matabeleland South, Bulawayo Metropolitan, Masvingo and Manicaland Provinces as well as southern areas Midlands, Harare Metropolitan and Mashonaland Provinces are among the provinces that were expected to experience the cold weather.
