Some locally based Chinese owned companies are now offering pay packages above the Industry Grading System in a bid to attract skilled workers.
This was revealed by Chamber of Chinese Enterprises in Zimbabwe vice chairperson Ms Shanel Liu yesterday at the closure of the two-day job fair held in Borrowdale.
“Some of the popular positions are for HR practitioners, drivers, electricians, accountants, engineers, translators, the salary offer are equivalent or above Industry Grading System,” Ms Liu told media representatives present.
She also gave a guideline of pay packages on offer starting from US$200 up to over US$1200 for translator/administrator posts.
Ms Liu said that organisers hoped that the creation of quality employment would staunch the brain drain that has been dogging Zimbabwe over the past years as skilled workers migrated to countries where they could earn more.
High unemployment rates and poor remuneration are among the biggest challenges that the country has to surmount.
Ms Liu said the event attracted 1706 job applicants. There were 757 jobs and close to 40 companies that took part in the fair.
There are indications that there are more similar vacancies in other Chinese owned companies across the country.
Ms Liu said the event co-hosted by CCEZ and Stanbic Bank was a success in that it achieved its goal to provide a platform for job seekers and employers to interact face to face.
She said this was key “especially for students to be able to gain a deeper understanding of their career prospects and pursue preferred pathways through networking with potential employers”.
The employers were also afforded a chance to identify suitable talent, engage them in early recruitment processes.
“We hope the job fair can attract more Zimbabwe cultivated talents to stay in Zimbabwe to assist to the growth of their home land.”
