A 30-year-old CBZ Holdings Limited employee has been charged with fraud after allegedly initiating transactions that credited a total of US$68,400 into various visa accounts, including his own and those of staff members.

Jabulani Nkomo, of Sunningdale 3, appeared before Magistrate Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing fraud charges.

He was granted US$200 bail and is expected back in court on September 3, 2025.

The complainant is CBZ Holdings Limited, represented by Francis Dembaremba.

Prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu told the court that on July 30, Nkomo initiated fraudulent transactions, crediting varying amounts into 17 different visa accounts, including those belonging to employees—mostly from the Information Technology Department.

Nkomo allegedly credited US$16,000 to his own visa account and immediately withdrew US$5,000.

Later that day, CBZ’s Group Information and Technology Department detected the suspicious activity and launched an internal investigation. A review of the document trail led to the discovery of Nkomo’s alleged involvement.

The bank was able to recover US$79 400 from the affected accounts.

In total, US$84 400 was defrauded, with US$79 400 successfully recovered.
