A Harare councillor, who was arrested on similar charges with Sunningdale Citizens Coalition for Change MP, Maureen Kademaunga, has remained in custody after the latter’s charges were dropped.
They were arrested in connection with attempted murder and malicious damage to property charges, but the State found nothing connecting Kademaunga to the alleged crimes.
Kademaunga was arrested along with Clayd Mashozhera, Councillor for Ward 10 and Daudi Jessub.
In an interview, Kademaunga said she was happy and relieved.
She said, she was hoping that the police will do an efficient and thorough job in getting to the bottom of this case.
“Whilst l am happy and relieved, this case must be investigated thoroughly, because l understand and know that the team l worked with in Sunningdale that includes my councillor and chief election agent is a peace loving team. They ran a campaign which was non-violent, they ran a campaign to persuade people to see our perspective.
“We did not fight anyone, we were provoked several times, but we really did manage to keep calm in the face of a lot of provocation throughout the campaign.
“If there is a car that was burnt, the police must be able to come up with perpetrators of this crime rather than just persecuting people because they belong to a certain party,” she said.
Meanwhile, Mashozhera has been remanded in custody to today for bail ruling.
