Newly-elected Harare City Citizens coalition for Change Deputy Mayor, Kudzai Kadzombe, 40, has appeared in court.

She was ordered to appear in court on October 2, since she was coming from home.

She appeared before magistrate Ethel Chichera at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of assault.

The State, through prosecutor, Zebediah Bofu, alleges that on August 23, 2023, at around 1030 hours, Saeed Musaengana was walking on a path leading to the tents in a bid to vote.

Two cars allegedly came, a silver Toyota Fortuner and a white commuter omnibus and stopped before Musaenga.

Several people emerged from the two cars and one man approached Musaengana in a bid to provoke him but he was refrained by others.

Kadzombe, allegedly took advantage of that and approached Musaengana and got hold of him by the neck.

She allegedly continued grabbing him on the back of his neck.

When Kadzombe eventually let him go, Musaengana went to ZRP Marlborough to make report.

Tinashe Chinopfukutwa, Kadzombe’s lawyer, said she had initially been charged with assault, but when she came here another charge was added.

“It’s been alleged that she obstructed a voter from getting into a polling station.

“So we have appeared in court, she has been remanded on free bail,” he said.
