Authorities are still investigating the possible causes of the emission that affected at least 53 learners at Jameson High School in Kadoma yesterday, the ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has said.
This comes as the school was temporarily closed yesterday with several of the learners being hospitalised at Kadoma General Hospital.
The incident occurred at around 7am during the morning assembly.
Director of Communications and Advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Taungana Ndoro confirmed the incident.
“We are still investigating the possible causes of the emission which caused breathing problems to the students. We initially suspected gas leakages but later we found out that all gas taps were closed.
“We released the students for the weekend while investigations are taking place.”
The Kadoma Municipality, Environmental Management Agency and Zimbabwe National Army are assisting in the investigations.
