It is compulsory for children from four years and above to attend Early Childhood Development as directed in the Zimbabwe Early learning Policy launched today in Kadoma, government has said.
The Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Angeline Gata, who officiated at the launch of the policy, said basis for the policy is in the Addis Ababa Action agenda - together with Goal Number Five of the Sustainable Development Goals as well as the education agenda declaration.
The three all spoke to increasing access to quality inclusive and equitable Early Childhood Development, while looking at strengthening the human capital foundation through acquisition of knowledge.
“Human capital development is premised on the acquisition of knowledge, values and attitudes that are acquired through an education system which priorities early learning as the basis for any other lifelong learning opportunities,” Deputy Minister Gata said.
“May I therefore declare the Zimbabwe Early Learning Policy officially launched,” Hon. Gata added.
The policy in itself addresses and guides programming and learning within the infant School Module, in which it also addresses the role and responsibilities of education stakeholders and partners while focusing on the quality of teaching and learning, children’s health, nutrition and care as well as family and community support.
