The Chinese Embassy in Zimbabwe and the Confucius Institute at the University of Zimbabwe have announced an essay writing contest organised in an effort to inspire the learning of Chinese culture and language in Zimbabwe.
Prizes for the Youngsters category will be US$300 for first prize, the two second winners will be get US$200 and the three in third place get US$100 each.
The Adults category winner will walk away with a laptop to the winner and the two second place and three third place winners will each get a smartphone each.
The "My Story with China" Essay Competition for Young Zimbabweans is aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and friendship between the two countries, while helping young people to strengthen their writing skills and exploring their experiences.
Contestants are invited to write their own original stories about China and knowledge about the country's economy, society and culture.
Participants must be aged between 15 and 30 who are not of Chinese nationality, who grew up outside China, and whose mother tongue and that of their parents is not Chinese.
There are two categories: Youngsters for 15 to 19 years and Adults category for 20 to 30 years.
Entries must be true non-fictional stories and true feelings based on personal experience of learning Chinese, studying in China or exposure to the country's culture.
Adjudication will focus on the most compelling stories

The author's real name, address, telephone number and other necessary contact details should be included and proof of age will be required for the Youngsters category as well.
Adult category

Youngsters category
Entries should be submitted through Mr Zimhindo on tawazee90@gmail.com or to Zheng Laoshi on 0779437116 with "my story with China essay" as the subject of the ommunication.
