SIX inmates of Zimbabwean nationality and a South African accomplice in the early hours of Tuesday, October 17, escaped from Grahamstown Correctional Facility, Makhanda, in the Eastern Cape. The South African Police Service has since launched a manhunt to bring them back to book.
The Correctional Services Department of that country made an announcement hours after the escape, advising the public not to confront the seven as they are regarded as highly dangerous.
Nhamo Muyambo, Francis Chitho, Trymore Chauke, Lubuyo September, Abraham Moyane and Simba Masinge were facing charges of rhino poaching, with the South African in detention for murder, attempted murder, kidnapping and robbery.
According to the Correctional Services Department, investigations to establish the escape have since been instituted.
“Correctional Services is appealing to the public to assist with any information that might lead to the rearrest of the escapees. They are considered dangerous and should not be confronted if spotted. Information should be shared with the nearest police station.”
