Sanyatwe Takes Helm of Zimbabwe National Army

Lieutenant-General Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe has been appointed Commander of the Zimbabwe National Army with immediate effect.

The announcement was made Friday by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Martin Rushwaya, who advised the nation in a statement:

“His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Dr Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has with immediate effect and in terms of Section 216 (2) as read with Section 89 and 110 (2g) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 20) appointed Lt-Gen Anselem Nhamo Sanyatwe to the position of Commander of the ZNA.

“The appointment follows the retirement of outgoing Commander of the ZNA, Lt-Gen David Sigauke.

After having headed the Presidential Guard unit prior to the emergence of the Second Republic, Lt-Gen Sanyatwe was given a diplomatic posting to Tanzania where he became Zimbabwe’s ambassador to that country.
