A man, who allegedly defrauded more than £12 000 after being entrusted by the owner, has appeared in court.
Jasper Mashinganidze, 53, of Glen View 1 Extension appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of fraud.
The complainant in this matter is Mary Nyamakura, 51.
The State, through prosecutor Grace Mugocheke, alleges that on May 10, 2022, Nyamukira asked for a favour from Mashinganidze.
The favour was for Mashinganidze to receive £12 020.00 refund in his Lloyd Bank account, on behalf of Nyamakura.
After that, Mashinganidze was supposed to transfer the money immediately after receiving the deposit.
He allegedly agreed and promised to abide by the agreement.
Nyamukura was then informed by one Allan Crossman that the refund was processed and the money was deposited into Mashinganidze’s account.
It is alleged that Nyamakura asked Mashinganidze and he confirmed that he had received the money and promised to transfer it to Nyamakura on the same day.
Days passed by as Nyamakura was eagerly waiting for the transfer but she did not receive the money.
She tried to engage Mashinganidze several times but no leads were obtained.
She then opted to make a police report, which led to Mashinganidze's arrest.
The total amount that Nyamakura lost was £12 000 and £5 000 was recovered.
Mangosi ordered Mashinganidze to deposit US$200 as bail and will appear in court November 20 for routine remand.
