A suspected drug dealer ran away on foot after police shot the front tyre of his car as he tried to evade arrest, leaving his accomplice to face the music alone

This was revealed when Leeroy Tungama, 28, of Hatfield, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi accused of dealing with dangerous drugs.

The State, through prosecutor Zebediah Bofu, alleges that on November 1, at around 0600 hours, police officers from CID Drugs and Narcotics, Harare were informed that Tunguma and Nhama Mugadi who is still at large were distributing Methylenedioxymethamphetamine in Mufakose using a silver Honda Fit.

At around 0800 hours, on the same day, the police went to the Mufakose area for surveillance.

They spotted the car along Mukamba Street, around 1400 hours and pursued it.

The accused sped off leading to a chase-up but the police lost track of the car.

The police was later informed that the accused were about to collect their parcel at Highglen Shopping Center.

At around 1530 hours the car was spotted entering Highglen Bus terminus.

That was when the police intercepted it, the accused sped off again leading to the police firing one gun shot on the front left tyre of the car.

The accused stopped the car and Mugadi who is still at large got out of the car and ran away.

The police chased him but they failed to catch him.

Police arrested Tungama who was on the front passenger seat.

He was searched leading to the seizure of 1 sachet of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine weighing 5 grammes.

A search of the car revealed 1 big sachet of Methylenedioxymethamphetamine weighed 15 grammes, black scale and several empty packing plastics.

Tungama was subsequently arrested and the car was taken to CID Drugs and Narcotics Harare together with the seized Methylenedioxymethamphetamine.

The Methamphetamine was weighed and recorded approximately 5 grammes and 15 grammes respectively with a street value of the ZWL$2 000 000.

Tungama was ordered to appear in court on November 7 for bail application.
