Former Warriors and Highlanders midfield legend, Rahman Gumbo has died at the age of 59.
He reportedly suffered a heart attack at his home in Palapye, Botswana, on Thursday in the presence of his son.
“He was ferried to hospital but his condition never improved until medical authorities there decided to transfer him to a Francistown facility, 160km away Friday evening where he was immediately put in the Intensive Care Unit. Gumbo passed on barely a few hours later.
“He was in the company of his wife and Zacharia Muzadzi, his assistant at his recent former club Morupule Wanderers, who confirmed the tragic news.
“I am shattered,” said Muzadzi.
Gumbo earned the legendary status during the 1990s with Highlanders and was a vital cog of the Warriors popularly known as the Dream Team that was coached by the late German gaffer, Reinhard Fabisch. He went on to establish himself as a top coach winning titles in Zimbabwe, Malawi and Botswana.
He served the nation as the Warriors head coach and assistant coach on se several occasions.
