Chemplex Corporation defrauded of US$24 732 in activated carbons deal

A man who defrauded Chemplex Corporation Limited of more than US$24 000 has appeared in court.

Tawanda Maposa of Waterfalls, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of fraud.

The complainant is Chemplex Corporation Limited, a Chemical manufacturing and distribution company.

The State alleges that on September 9, 2023, Maposa, who went to Chemplex Corporation Limited and lied that he that he was an employee of Tedglad Mining Private Limited, Kwekwe and he wanted to buy activated carbon for the company on credit.

He allegedly produced copies of Tedglad Mining Private Limited’s Company documents as well as copies of national identity cards of the directors to Chemplex Corporation Limited.

Maposa completed the credit application form and was given him 6 tonnes of activated carbon worth US$24 732.

On the lapse of the credit repayment period, Chemplex Corporation Limited made follow-ups for the payment from Tedglad Mining Private Limited, but it disassociated itself from the transaction.

That was when Chemplex Corporation Limited discovered that it had been defrauded.

Efforts were made to locate Maposa to recover the money or the activated carbon but he became evasive and unavailable.

As a result, Chemplex Corporation Limited lost US$24 732 and nothing was recovered.

The complainant suffered actual prejudice of USD$24 732 and nothing was recovered.

He was ordered appear in court on December 13.
