Zimbabwe Upset Scotland To Qualify For Super 12

Zimbabwe has qualified for the Super 12 group stage after upsetting Scotland by five wickets in a tense match played Friday, October 21 in Hobart.

Effectively, it means Scotland has crashed out of the T20 World Cup and will miss the chance to go up against rivals England.

With the five-wicket win, Zimbabwe have topped their group and made it to Group 2 of the Super 12 involving India, Pakistan, South Africa, Bangladesh and Netherlands.

Zimbabwe's Craig Ervine (58 in 54) and Sikandar Raza (40 in 23) did the damage.

The Chevrons limited the Scots to 132-6 with tidy bowling led by Tendai Chatara (2-14) and Richard Ngarava (2-28) before rattling through the run chase with nine balls to spare.

George Munsey hit 54 in 51 balls as Scotland set their opponents a gettable total of 132, and although they started well with several quick wickets, captain Craig Ervine struck 58 off 54 and Sikandar Raza smashed 40 off just 23 to swing the momentum.

Zimbabwe skipper Craig Ervine said after the match: “I don’t think anyone can explain what it means. We had the whole country around us. Well-deserved win for the boys hitting a huge performance to get us through.

“I needed Raza (Sikandar) to come in a play those innings. I knew if I could steady the ship and with Raza’s hitting ability, we could get over the line.

“The support for us has been special. Wherever we go, the support is there and we are looking forward to travelling around Australia and have the supporters follow us,” he said.
