Patience Muchemwa
A Hatcliffe Extension man, Obert Murakwani, 34, appeared before Magistrate Donald Ndirowei accused of rape.
The State, through prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, told the court that Murakwani repeatedly had sex with Patience Katiyo without her consent.
Circumstances are that, in July 2023, Katiyo went to Hatcliffe to stay with her Aunt Nyarai Tembo and Murakwani in a one-roomed house.
All was well until August 2023 when Katiyo’s aunt visited her rural area, leaving Murakwani and Katiyo together.
On an unknown day in August, Murakwani went home and on arrival found Katiyo packing her clothes in the wardrobe. He sat on the bed and asked Katiyo to sit on his lap and she obeyed. He started to fondle Katiyo’s breast and went on to rape her without her consent and without protection.
He continuously had sexual intercourse with Katiyo on several times without her consent whenever her aunt was away.
Katiyo did not disclose the matter to her aunt since she was afraid of her but she told Annah Mutenje as she had developed health challenges with her stomach. Mutenje advised Katiyo to tell the matter to her aunt.
A report was made, leading to Murakwani’s arrest.
Murakwani will appear in court on December 20 for trial.
