A Harare Central Police Station officer, sergeant Ngandu has been arrested together with Behaviour Makumbira, a sex worker for extorting US$6.3k from a client, Mark Anthony Naidoo, by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission.

In a statement, ZACC noted that Naidoo had engaged Makumbira for sexual services for which he paid US$30 for the services for which they exchanged numbers, which led to Naidoo being summoned to Harare Central Police Station for an interview on allegations of rape, which Naidoo denied.

“Ngandu warned Naidoo that he was likely to face jail term and encouraged him to compromise with Makumbira so that they could solve the issue amicably,” ZACC said in a statement.

It is said Naidoo gave in to the pressure, leading to him giving Makumbira US$3.5k which she had demanded for her to drop the rape allegations and she shared the money with Ngandu. However, the statement confirmed the continual pursuit by both Ngandu and Makumbira on separate occasions, demanding more money which led to Naidoo reporting the matter to ZACC after he had paid US$6.3.

Ngandu was remanded to February 24, 2024 and granted US$100 bail and ordered to report to ZACC every Friday after appearing at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts yesterday.
