An inmate who recently exhibited “supernatural-like powers” and broke a jail wall at Harare Central Prison using his forehead in an attempt to escape, appeared in court on Friday.
The inmate, Unbothered Richard Majoni, 33, appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi charged with malicious damage to property while reports say he had initially been arrested for drug dealing.
Majoni was remanded in custody until November 3.
Court heard that on October 18, Majoni acted as if he was possessed by some supernatural powers, hitting the wall in his cell with his head and cracked it open while some bricks fell off.
He is then believed to have used the bricks to break the padlock and handcuffs before he escaped from his cell.
He then jumped into the ceiling and walked through but fell into the storeroom. Majoni then broke the door handle, alarming prison guards in the process, leading to his apprehension.
The court heard that three officers struggled to arrest him since he was violent and powerful.
Although he said he was not aware of what he was alleged to have done, Majoni later acknowledged that he might have done it when the charges were put to him.
