Three men who were part of a gang that allegedly stabbed and assaulted a Hightide Security guard to rob him, have been taken to court.
Peter Mahwite, 46, of Mbare National, Tatenda Mashamombe, Glen View 1 and Musindo Mazivisa, 32, of Matapi, Mbare, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates' Courts charged with robbery.
They were remanded in custody.
The complainant in this matter is Kennedy Mudyanavana, 35.
The State, through prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, alleges that on January 7 at around 1620 hours, Mudyanavana knocked off duty and locked the premises before going home.
It is alleged that one Never Mberi of Hightide Security company was left manning the premises.
On January 8, at around 0215 hours, the three accused and their accomplices, who are still at large, only identified as Kunashe, Bhebhe and Kule, waylaid Mberi and tied both his legs and hands with shoelaces.
They allegedly covered Mberi’s face with a wool hat and put gloves in his mouth, stabbed him once with a knife on his back and was assaulted with open hands.
The court heard that they then went to the office, opened the reception door using an unknown object before entering the room.
They allegedly stole a Mac-book Apple laptop, Samsung A12 phone, G-tel phone, Lenovo laptop, 263 Health Tablet laptop, super floss, 05 x toothbrush, 12 x dental mirror kits and then went away.
A report was filed at ZRP Avondale, leading to the recovery of 263 Health tablet laptop, Lenovo laptop, Mac-book Apple, 3 x dental super floss, 2 x tooth brush and 6 x dental mirror kit.
As a result, the total value of stolen items was US$3 200 and US$2 200 worth was recovered from their car.
The State also alleges that on January 8, 2024, around 0330 hours at corner 6th and Mzingeli, Mbare National in Harare, a team which included Assistant Inspector Muchadenyika, Sergeant Gwasha, Constable Tawodzera and Constable Gombedza was on motorised patrol duty when they pounced on a maroon Nissan X-Trail which was parked by the roadside.
It is alleged that three unknown accused persons jumped from the Nissan X-Trail and ran away.
The patrol team arrested three of them and searched the car and recovered two pairs of catapults, iron bar, wire cutter, bayonet knife, 18-inch screw and torch.
The accused persons failed to give a satisfactory answer on the recovered articles.
The three were subsequently arrested and taken to ZRP Mbare.
