A Noringo Star pistol was found abandoned in a room - which had been booked by an unidentified man and woman - at a lodge along Masotsha Ndlovu Road in Hatfield last Friday, police say.

The lodge owner was forced to report to the police after the couple failed to return for their belongings.

Investigations to determine the ownership of the firearm, Acting Harare provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa said, are currently underway.

According to Ass. Insp. Mapisa, an unidentified car dropped off a man and a woman at the lodge around 2:45pm on January 5. The couple booked the room and left at around 3:50pm. An employee of the lodge discovered the firearm while cleaning the room later that day.

In a related incident, a loaded rifle was discovered placed between rocks on the banks of the Manyame River by a nyau dancer who was dressing on Saturday.

The rifle, which was loaded with seven rounds, and the firearm found at the Hatfield lodge have heightened concerns about possible illicit activities, prompting scrutiny from law enforcement agents.
