Zifa Eastern Region Division One outfit, FC Wangu Mazodze, is spreading its wings, establishing a new team of the same name to compete in the Zifa Central Region this coming season. Aiming for double promotion, the club chairman, Trevor Chateuka, confirmed the exciting development yesterday.
The Redcliff-based team will call Viscos Sports Club their home ground and has already affiliated with the Central Region. This bold move comes on the heels of FC Wangu Mazodze’s Eastern Region campaign, where they narrowly missed Premiership promotion last season.
“Our vision is to empower communities through football,” Chateuka declared.
“We believe in using football as a tool for development and want to provide opportunities for talented youngsters in Redcliff.”
The club’s ambition is clear: promotion to the Premiership for both their Eastern and Central Region teams. “We are running both clubs professionally,” Chateuka assured, “and are currently searching for a seasoned coach to lead the Redcliff team”.
While FC Wangu Mazodze fell short of promotion in the East last year, they enter the 2024 season with renewed hope under the leadership of newly-appointed John Nyikadzino.
“We are confident in Coach Nyikadzino,” Chateuka stated, “and have given him the freedom to choose his assistants.”
The prospect of two FC Wangu Mazodze teams vying for Premiership glory is a thrilling one. “Our ultimate goal is to play in the top-flight league,” Chateuka affirmed, “and we will support both teams to achieve that dream.”
The Redcliff team’s entry into the Zifa Central Region adds another layer of intrigue to the upcoming season. Will FC Wangu Mazodze soar on both fronts? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: their dedication to community development and footballing excellence make them a team to watch.
