Two men, who were part of a gang that allegedly assaulted and robbed a complainant who was talking to a thigh vendor, have been denied bail.
Munyaradzi Munyaradzi Chatongodza, 26, of Kuwadzana 4, and Nhlanhla Dewah, 41, of Westgate appeared before magistrate Apolonia Marutya at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts facing robbery charges.
He will appear in court January 22, for bail application.
The State, through prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, alleges that on January 13, 2024 at around 0300 hours at Greencroft Shops, Harare, the complainant was speaking to Shakira, a thigh vendor standing at his Toyota Hilux twin cab when a blue Honda Fit came where he had parked his car.
One person from the Honda Fit signalled the two accused persons, who were parked away in a Sienta taxi and it came and parked behind the Honda Fit.
It is alleged that people who were in those cars attacked the complainant from all angles and he was pushed to the ground.
Those who were in a Honda Fit went into their car and drove off while the taxi remained behind for some minutes before driving off.
After the cars had driven off, the complainant realised that his phones and wallet containing US$250 had been stolen by the accused persons.
The State alleges there were three people at that moment, the other three occupants of the Honda Fit are still at large.
