Zimbos in UK care work face deportation as sponsors lose licence

Zim Now Writer

Zimbabwean nationals working in the UK care sector whose sponsors have had their licences revoked have two months to apply for new visas or leave the country.

The UK Home Office has announced that if the employer loses their sponsor licence, the worker will have to leave the UK unless they make a new visa application to stay in the country.

For those already in the UK, when sponsor loses their licence, the certificate of sponsorship is cancelled, and visa is limited to 60 days or the remaining time left on your visa if it’s less than 60 days.

Those outside the UK face cancellation of their visas and deportation on arrival.

The UK has revoked licences of about 100 private social care providers in the past two and a half months.

Some providers have been selling the sponsorship letters to desperate Zimbabweans for amounts ranging from US$4 000 to US$6 000.

The licences were revoked for failure to adhere to regulation, including poor record keeping and updates on care worker status.

All affected care workers can make new visa applications within that period, which means finding a new sponsor.
